Show April 9-13/Interactive Event, Opening April 13

E-newsletter for April 4

Our show, which includes individual work, goes up Sunday at noon in the VA building lobby and continues until Thursday April 13. Our vernissage is Thursday evening, 6 to 10 p.m. It will include interactive drawing and painting, and some surprises, including some break dancing presented by a collective member who breaks as well as paints, Marisa Hoicka. We might have a dj as well.

This Friday’s session, 10 to 130 in VA 315, will be important for planning the show and what type of interactive activity we want to have Thursday evening. Monica might try to show some video work as well.

I have done a rough draft show card, based on an image done last week by Angeliki Gketsou and Stephanie Reynolds, which we liked at a curating session we did at the end of the session to look at our new work. A good version of the invite is being worked on by collective member Angeliki. The draft version is in the Our Work section of our website.

And take a look at some of our new work that will be in the show, in the Our Work section of this website.

The show will include work selected by Montreal artist Holly King at a special curating session on Feb. 10. It will also include the best one of dozens of François Morelli’s drawings that were coloured in our interactive sessions, and which will be made into a video, along with some coloured at the Musée du Quebec at a special colouring session led by Morelli, whose work was shown at the 2002 Montreal Biennale.

Also, a small piece will be included from a special collaboration between artists from the class of Eric Simon, visiting professor in painting at Concordia, who has been advising Robert Winters on the collective this year, and photographer Diane Thorneycroft, of the University of Manitoba.

Bring your individual work to the VA lobby at noon on Sunday as well as materials for hanging it please. The work must be picked up at the end of the evening on Thursday April 13.

It’s going to be an interesting evening in the VA building as Thursday night is also the show on the fourth floor, where undergraduate artists have been working in new spaces all year. You can visit their spaces and see the work they’ve been doing.

To read about the explosion of artwork on the fourth floor, you can read a story by collective member Robert Winters in The Journal, published by Concordia University, at this web page:
